Application

Total Clean Out Decontaminant can be used for cleaning spraying equipment, decontamination when changing from one agricultural chemical group to another, and end-of-season cleaning before storage.

Thorough cleaning and decontamination of spray equipment after herbicide applications is essential. Spray equipment that has not been properly cleaned can leave herbicide residues capable of causing significant damage to subsequent crops and pastures.

Grass control herbicides such as Verdict (Haloxyfop), Fusilade (Fluazifop-P), Select (Clethodim), Targa (Quizalofop-P-Ethyl) and Sertin (Sethoxydim) can strip residues of broadleaf herbicides, particularly sulfonylurea herbicides such as Glean (Chlorsulfuron) and Logran (Triasulfuron), from spray tanks and lines. Even very small concentrations of these residues can be extremely damaging to winter cereals and summer crops such as canola, sunflowers, cotton, pulses, legumes and other desirable broadleaf vegetation.

Cleaning Procedure:

For cleaning non-persistent chemicals from spray tanks, hoses and other spray equipment:

1. Clean spray equipment immediately after spraying is completed.
2. Hose down the outside of the tank to prevent herbicide residues from recontaminating the unit.
3. Drain the tank, then flush the tank, boom and hoses with clean water for a minimum of 10 minutes.
4. Half fill the tank with clean water and begin agitation.
5. Remove the filter basket from the top of the tank.
6. Measure the required amount of Total Clean Out Decontaminant using the supplied 50g measuring cup or a clean, dry measuring jug. Approximately 1g of product equates to 1ml by volume.
7. Replace the product lid firmly immediately after measuring to keep the product dry.
8. Slowly add Total Clean Out Decontaminant through the top port of the tank.
9. Replace the filter basket and fill the tank with water. Agitate and circulate the solution through all lines and run the sprayer to fill the boom.
10. Agitate vigorously for 15 minutes and recirculate.
11. Use a hand lance or return hose to clean the top of the tank and around the filter basket, paying particular attention to indentations and ledges where herbicide may have accumulated.
12. Open spray booms and spray out.
13. Repeat Steps 4–12.

Re-use of Sprayer:

When the sprayer is to be reused immediately, the additional procedure outlined in the Technical Bulletin must be followed to ensure excess foam containing chlorine residue is completely removed.

Important: Rinse water should be discharged into a designated disposal area. Always take particular care to follow the directions for cleaning and decontaminating spray equipment.
